The UN came to this conclusion based on an anual survey evaluating indices of social and economic welfare in 174 countires. Australia ranks highly due to the its record in providing access to education, high life expectancy, and low levels of crime.
In a separate study of 130 world cities the Economic Intelligence Unit of the The Economist qualified Melbourne as one of the two best cities in the world to live, followed by Perth in third place, and Sydney, Brisbane y Adelaide in eighth place.
The study named five Australian cities in the top eight cities in the world to live.
“We really found very little to complain about in Melbourne, is nearly the perfect city”, said Bill Ridgers, editor of the study.
Commonly the Australian life style is percevied as more relaxed than in other countries. In part his is due to the wealth of the country and the absence of extreme poverty, but also the friendly attitude of ordinary people.
With a strong economy, even in these times of financial crisis, Australia is the perfect place to be young and fancy free or to bring up a family.
